Fête de la Musique is a music festival first initiated in France in 1982, taking place on the summer solstice every year. On this day, music "takes over" the streets of France, from metro stations to churches, bars to town squares. It is an event for everyone to participate in, with everyone playing music. Today, this festival has spread to more than 120 countries, with over 450 cities participating. Fête de la Musique has become one of the most important festivals for cultural sharing among French-speaking countries.
In 2024, during the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, the French Embassy in China and Sea of Wood collaborated for the first time to host Fete de la Musique at Spacing. It was a lovely success, with the French community showing up in force and mixing up with local fans of music of all ages.
In 2025, Sea of Wood Records will continue to carry this energy forward. On June 21, two French musicians will perform at Spacing (Xinying Branch): Ysé and Basic Partner. Two signed bands from Sea of Wood Records—Wild Mushrooms and EMP —will also appear on this stage for an exciting lineup. With different languages, styles, and sounds, they will weave together a night where borders fade away. From French rock rhythms to original music that integrates the local Yunnan context, this will be a journey for the ears—a communication that can be understood without the need for a translator.

Ysé made a successful breakthrough with her first EP Dare. Now, she is embarking on a journey full of new possibilities. After her sold-out performance at Paris' La Boule Noire and a brilliant appearance at Café de la Danse, Ysé has received widespread acclaim for her performances at renowned music festivals such as the Printemps de Bourges Inouïs section, Charabia, Chorus, and MaMA. She has also been a guest performer for numerous artists, including Jeanne Added, Pomme, Jain, Bertrand Belin, La Grande Sophie, Arthur H, and Aliocha Schneider, all of whom have drawn attention to her remarkable stage presence. This year, Ysé is on tour, with performances across France and abroad, and she is set to release her first full-length album.

Basic Partner draws creative inspiration from the dark and gloomy atmosphere of David Lynch’s films, while also incorporating the bright pop tones seen in Steve McQueen’s film Shame. Their music oscillates between the melancholic aesthetics of post-punk and the bold energy of modern pop music. Through layered electronic textures and sharp, repetitive guitar riffs, they deeply reflect the contradictions and tensions of contemporary life.

Wild Mushrooms comes from Honghe, Yunnan, and was formed in 2020. The band members are all from ethnic minority backgrounds, drawing inspiration from the cultural and artistic heritage of the Hani people of Honghe. Their style blends ethnic rock and psychedelic music, showcasing distinctive regional and ethnic characteristics.
Their music is like mushrooms—nutritious and unique in flavor. It merges elements of ethnic music, rock, dub, psychedelic electronic, and world music, incorporating ethnic instruments and indigenous melodies. This fusion breaks down traditional musical boundaries.

EMP Band's style is deeply influenced by Grunge Rock, with psychedelic elements woven into this foundation, creating the band's unique melancholic atmosphere and sense of loneliness. In EMP's music, you can feel the sense of loss and pain that comes from being mired in the muck and darkness, which likely resonates with the experiences of contemporary youth. However, there are also moments of light and hope that shine through in their music.
